Testimony by CFC Member at State Capitol
My name is Patrina Thompson. I am a resident of Hartford. We are a family of three. Our annual income is just below $45,000 and I receive HUSKY A.  Under the Governor’s budget proposal, I would lose HUSKY and be required to go to the Exchange to purchase insurance.

Our monthly expenses average about $3,800. We don’t even have cable in the house. What I mean by this is that we are trying our hardest to live within our means. Enjoying a meal at a restaurant or even going to the movies is a luxury for us –we just don’t do it. I can’t even tell you when the last time I went on vacation was. I have close to zero dollars available after I have paid the bills.  It probably hard for many of you to even imagine what this like, but this is the way my family lives.

There is no possible way my family and I could afford to purchase insurance on the exchange. Even with the subsidies, the premiums would be too high and I have no line items to cut from. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without dental coverage either. T
